Easy Red Sangria

Sangria is a classic summer refresher: fruity, fresh, and so easy to love. It’s a quintessential Spanish drink that’s both flavourful and cooling on a warm day. This non-alcoholic sangria recipe keeps all the charm of the original, without the alcohol. Made with alcohol-free red wine, juicy citrus, and a touch of spice, it’s an easy vegan mocktail that’s perfect for sunny gatherings, special occasions, or quiet evenings on the balcony. It comes together in minutes, looks stunning in a pitcher, and tastes even better after a little chill time.

Ingredients

Red sangria

  • 1
    apple
  • ½
    orange
  • 2 Tbsp (28g)
    light brown sugar
  • 1
    cinnamon stick
  • 1 cup (240ml)
    orange juice
  • 2 cups (220g)
ice cubes, plus more as needed
  • 2 cups (480ml)
    alcohol-free red wine
  • 1 cup (240ml)
    carbonated water (optional)

Directions

  1. Cut the apples and oranges into thin slices*.
  2. Transfer to the serving jug and add the sugar.
  3. Mull slightly with a wooden spatula or tamper.
  4. Add the cinnamon stick.
  5. Then add the orange juice and stir. Let sit at room temperature for at least 10 minutes, or in the fridge for 4 to 8 hours for a more fruity flavour**.
  6. When ready to serve, add a generous amount of ice cubes and the wine.
  7. Optionally, reduce the intensity of the drink and add some fizz by adding carbonated water.
  8. To assemble, divide into glasses, garnish as desired, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Pinot Noir or other fruity, low-tannin red wines like Spanish Tempranillo or Garnacha work best, though any affordable wine will do.
  • *If desired, reserve a few pieces for garnish.
  • ** This makes sangria a great make-ahead recipe!

Storage

  • The assembled red sangria is best enjoyed immediately.
  • The muddled fruit mixture can be stored in the fridge for up to 1 day. Add the ice, wine, and carbonated water (if using) when ready to serve.
