Satisfy your sweet tooth with these irresistibly fudgy vegan double chocolate brownies! Perfect for any occasion, from special celebrations to everyday indulgence, these decadent treats are loaded with rich cocoa flavour and studded with gooey chocolate chunks. And the best part? They're completely plant-based, meaning there’s no dairy and it’s an eggless brownie recipe! A must-try for any chocolate lover craving a delicious dessert.
Mix the ground flaxseed and water in a large bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes to gel.
Meanwhile, fill a saucepan 2-inch (5 cm) full with water. Bring to a simmer, and place a heat-proof bowl on the saucepan. Roughly chop the chocolate for melting and add to the bowl with the oil.
Stir the chocolate until fully melted. Then remove from the heat and let cool off slightly.
Line a 6 x 6 inch (15 x 15 cm) baking dish. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C)*.
Transfer the melted chocolate to the large bowl containing the flaxseeds. Add the sugars, milk, and vanilla, and mix well.
Next, add the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Mix until partly combined, then stir in the chopped chocolate until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix.
Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish for 17 - 20 minutes. The brownie will not have completely set by then, making it deliciously fudgy.
Let the brownie cool off completely, then transfer it to the fridge to firm up more if desired**. Enjoy!
Notes
†Refined coconut oil is coconut oil that doesn't smell or taste like coconuts. If you prefer a distinct coconut taste, use unrefined coconut oil instead.
* We used top and bottom heating (not fan-assisted/convection).
** In our opinion, these brownies taste even more flavourful and fudgey the next day after they've been refrigerated.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Or freeze for up to 2 months.

I tried it 2 times. Both times the taste was great but it was under baked in the middle. Should I not bake brownies in a rectangular pan?? Please help.
PUL Team - Oct. 17, 2024, 2:22 p.m.
Hi there, Naveena, thanks for your interest in the vegan brownie recipe! It sounds like the brownies need a bit more baking time or temperature adjustment. A rectangular pan can work, but it may need a slightly longer bake because the batter spreads out more. You could also try lowering the oven temperature slightly and baking for longer to avoid under-baking 🤗 hope this helps for now 🫶

Sooo yummy! I slightly overbaked it, it was in the oven for about 21 minutes, so the texture is a bit more crumbly for me but if you bake according to the recipe it will be just perfect and the taste is absolutely amazing!

Novice baker here. I am not able to find a 6x6 inch baking dish! How do I convert the measurements to a smaller or bigger square dish? Is there an easy way out of this ? Some resources suggested complex tricks
PUL Team - Aug. 25, 2024, 9:50 p.m.
Hiya Megha, welcome to the world of baking! You can simply use any pan you have (square works best if possible) and adjust the baking time or oven temperature as needed. A larger pan will make the brownies thinner and may bake faster, while a smaller pan makes them thicker and might require a bit more time. If you’re using a larger pan, you can lower the oven temp slightly to make up for this. If using a smaller pan you can increase the oven temperature slightly. We haven't tried adjusting the measurements ourselves, so we can't give any advice on this! Hope this helps for now and that you enjoy the brownies if you give the recipe a try 🤗

Can I use olive oil instead of coconut oil? This looks delicious 😋
PUL Team - July 5, 2024, 8:17 p.m.
Hello Dee 👋 coconut oil is solid at room temperature which helps the brownies stay firm. You could substitute the coconut oil with a neutral vegetable oil, such as refined olive oil that doesn't impart the olive oil taste. The brownies may just end up a bit more crumbly and less moist. We hope you enjoy the recipe if you give it a try 🤗

Hey, im glad you posted another brownie recipee, as this one from your old blog using coconut water and no chocolate in the brownies, just at the top, i tried twice adn was really not good .. I have a question before making these- i always use about half sugar in traditional bakin recipes- like Gordon or NIgella, but i know you are smarter and more healthy than them ;) So how much less sugar do you think i could use then listed for it still to be pleasantly sweet, , 2/3? I really need to cut on sugar, i start to have pneu a l'estomac ;p
PUL Team - Dec. 11, 2023, 2:50 a.m.
Hey Ala, hmm I can't think of a brownie recipe that uses coconut water, perhaps that was from another blog? In any case, we can't say with certainty how these brownies will turn out with less sugar. The sugar contributes to the sweet flavour, but also the texture of the brownies. If you experiment we'd love to hear how it goes 🤗

Hahah, im prettty positive it was yours, from like 5 y ago ..i must have it printed somewhere..maybe it was coconut water slash soy milk. Anyway ! ;) Hahah, the link i clicked looks virtually the same as the 'salted fudge brownies'?, i dont know the name, but thoe that use dates, cacao and pecans and no sugar ! I remember making them to friends, announcing 'sugarless brownies for mthe best dietetician' and they were so afraid, and then LOVED them, i have to make them again soon, 2nd time i added oat/rice flower to have more and was great too ;)

Hello to the whole team :)
I tested this recipe this WE, but unfortunately the brownie was too dry, not at all moist or fudgy.... I think it's my fault, as I make individual cakes (rather than one big cake in a big tin) and my oven isn't fan-assisted... Could this have an impact? What tips do you have for making your recipes in smaller pans and in a convection oven (or even an air fryer, if that would work)?
Thanks in advance for your tips and advice so I can make these brownies with perfect texture 🥰
PUL Team - Nov. 23, 2023, 8:03 p.m.
Hi Laura, it sounds like the issue with the dry brownies might be due to using smaller individual pans instead of one large pan. When baking in smaller pans, the brownies have a larger surface area relative to their volume, which can cause them to bake faster and potentially dry out. To address this, try: 1) shorter baking time - since smaller brownies will bake quicker, start checking them for doneness well before the usual baking time, and 2) lower oven temp slightly. Regarding the type of oven, it seems you're using a conventional oven setting (top and bottom heat, no fan). We use the same setting. If you decide to try a convection oven (which uses a fan) or an air fryer, keep in mind that these methods cook food faster. For a convection oven, you might need to lower the temp by about 25 degrees Fahrenheit and check the brownies earlier than usual. We haven't tested this recipe in a convection oven or air fryer, so these are general guidelines. Hope these tips help a bit! :)

Couldn’t find refined coconut oil in the store so after reading some of the other comments I used margarine as it’s also firm at room temp. My batter was also very thick although I followed the ingredient amount to the gram… the result tastes great but is quite crumbly. Will def make these again when I find the right coconut oil.

Absolutely delish! I overcooked them a little due to getting distracted, but they were still great. Question: What temp. should these cook at? I put them in at 350 F, but they weren't done in the time. Should they be at 375? I just guessed because I didn't see a temp in the directions (which I may have missed).

Can I swap the coconut oil with another oil? Which one do you recommend? Can I swap the all purpose flour with buckwheat flower to make it gluten free?
PUL Team - March 1, 2023, 8:04 p.m.
Hi Petra! Coconut oil is solid at room temperature which helps the brownies stay firm. You could substitute the coconut oil with a neutral vegetable oil, such as refined olive oil that doesn't impart the olive oil taste. The brownies may just end up a bit more crumbly and less moist.
As for flour, we haven't experimented with either yet so we can't say with certainty. The gluten helps give the brownies a fluffier texture and structure that an alternative flour may not offer. A mix of gluten-free flours generally works better than using just one gluten-free flour on its own if you're interested. For example, there's a flour blend recipe from Minimalist Baker online.
We hope you enjoy the brownies if you're able to give them a try 🤗

Hi, I made these yesterday and they are so quick and easy! The taste is soo rich and good, however I think I overmixed the batter, because it was quite firm and when I read "pour into the baking tray" that was not happening, it was less pouring more spreading haha. And then I also think I baked them for too long... BUT: I made two mistakes and they still taste good! :) If you have any tips on how I can avoid them being too firm I'd appreciate it! How do I fold in the flour without overmixing?
PUL Team - Oct. 5, 2022, 7:28 a.m.
Hey Anna, so glad they were still enjoyed! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. It sounds like too much flour may have been added. Did you measure using the gram and mL amounts listed, or using the cup and Tbsp amounts? In case you use cup measurements, perhaps it might help to ensure that the flour isn't too packed in the cup, but rather, gently spooned into the measuring cup and levelled. This will ensure that not too much flour is added if you give the recipe another try, which will make the batter easier to fold and pour. Aside from overmixing, overbaking can lead to extra firmness so we'd recommend keeping a close eye on the brownies if you give them another try. We hope this helps for now 😃

These were soft, chewy, and all around delicious!! I used Bob’s Red Mill GF All-Purpose Flour and they turned out great! I finally found a brownie recipe I can enjoy 😄

What gluten-free flour/ingredient can i use to replace all purpose flour?
PUL Team - Dec. 24, 2021, 3:53 a.m.
Hi Mona, thanks for the question! We haven't experimented with it yet so we can't say with certainty. The gluten helps give the brownies a fluffier texture and structure that an alternative flour may not offer. However, a mix of gluten-free flours generally works better than using just one gluten-free flour on its own if you're interested. If so, here's a flour blend recipe from Minimalist Baker that might help: https://minimalistbaker.com/d…. Do let us know if you experiment with it☺️

i made muffins instead of brownies because i didn’t have a matching baking dish and they turned out AMAZING. Even my father, who is very suspicious about vegan food, loved them!!
Thanks for all your amazing recipes😍

Mmm muffins sound incredible! Thank you, Saskia 🤗

Sooo good, would never of thought of adding flax seed! Ok, I swapped a few things and added a couple of others; -used honey instead of maple syrup. - dairy milk instead soy milk. - added mint hot chocolate powder.
Very good! Will make more soon after I get some soy milk.

Just the best brownies! Not too sweet, super chocolaty, super tasty!
So many people asked for the recipe after the ate these brownies :)

I tried it 2 times. Both times the taste was great but it was under baked in the middle.
Should I not bake brownies in a rectangular pan?? Please help.
Yum! We baked it for 19mins and I was worried that it would come out too dry, but after it cooled down it was actually really nice and fudgy.
Sooo yummy! I slightly overbaked it, it was in the oven for about 21 minutes, so the texture is a bit more crumbly for me but if you bake according to the recipe it will be just perfect and the taste is absolutely amazing!
Best brownies ever 😍
The brownies were perfect in texture and very decadent. However, it was a bit on the sweeter end for my palette so gonna reduce white sugar the next time ☺️ love the app!
I just loved it with my whole family 👪 I cook your recipe with children help, it is just amazing that all your recipes are just impossible to fail. Marvelous ! I just reduced the quantity of sugar 😀
Novice baker here. I am not able to find a 6x6 inch baking dish! How do I convert the measurements to a smaller or bigger square dish? Is there an easy way out of this ? Some resources suggested complex tricks
I love the pictures and so good and clear instructions, thank you Sadia ♥️💕♥️💕
Looks so delicious ❤️❤️❤️
These brownies are absolutely amazing, so fudgy and decadent. I made a batch for a party, and now that I'm home I want to make another one for myself 🫣
Can I use olive oil instead of coconut oil? This looks delicious 😋
Dude, this should be illegal 😱 These are indeed THE best brownies!! Soooo delicious. Really rich and fudgy
had to make it two times in 3 days, it's so delicious 😋
These brownies are incredible! Definitely more on the fudgy side, but that is the way I prefer them!
How can I use date syrup instead of both sugars?
Thank you so much PUL for this recipe! Tried this today and now can’t think of ever buying brownies from the store. These are soooooo good! Also Sadia, I love you!❤️
These brownies are so gooey and delicious! I did put them back in the oven, baking for a total of 22 minutes and they were still really soft. I agree they're even better the next day after they've completely firmed up.
SO CHOCOLATY!! So gooey! I was never a fan of gooey brownies because of the idea of raw egg, but vegan chocolate gooey brownies hit different! I was stress free enjoying them!
Quick and easy recipe that hits the spot when you’re craving warm brownies! I’ll definitely be making this recipe again in the future. LOVED it!
These brownies turned out amazing!! So fudgy!! Will definitely make them again! Putting them in the fridge overnight makes them even tastier!
I tried making these brownies with my little one this weekend and they were lovely. The recipe was so easy to follow and they turned out so fudgy and gooey. Thank you for sharing :)
Made it at least 5 times already. It's so quick to make. Tastes wonderful. Amazing chocolate goodness. I add nuts to it for crunch :)
Indeed the best!
Really great recipe! Will be having it in my regular dessert rotation. Left it in for 5-10 minutes longer since the initial time left it a little too underdone for my liking.
Absolutely amazing. Truly the best. I would love to add the nuts, would that work? What kind of? Should I roast them before and mix together or just put on the top..? 🙏🏻
Delicious recipy !! The best vegan cake i ever made for the moment 😉
Hey, im glad you posted another brownie recipee, as this one from your old blog using coconut water and no chocolate in the brownies, just at the top, i tried twice adn was really not good ..
I have a question before making these- i always use about half sugar in traditional bakin recipes- like Gordon or NIgella, but i know you are smarter and more healthy than them ;)
So how much less sugar do you think i could use then listed for it still to be pleasantly sweet, , 2/3? I really need to cut on sugar, i start to have pneu a l'estomac ;p
Very tasty. Thank you so much! 🤗
The brownies are amazing - really rich and fudgy, and really easy to make!
Mine turned out to be more fudge and brownie, but the taste is fantastic. So rich.
I did not bake it quite enough, so gave it 10 minutes more in the oven the next day, now a bit more firm and brownie like.
Delicious!
Delicious!
The title of the recipe is true: these brownies are genuinely fantastic!
Amazing brownies, and freeze really well, too 😍
Truly Best Vegan Brownie's I ever had amazing recipe thankyou for sharing :)
Can you also upload some bread loaf , buns , sourdough and focaccia recipe if you can pretty please <3
Tasty, fudgy and chocolatey. My friends loved it.
So good, hit my period cravings at exactly the right spot.
So fudgy and delicious! Live them with ice cream, too.
So nice and fudgy! Very rich, both me and my hubby love it! Thanks for the easy recipe
So I made them and am staring at a pile of crumbs and they were stupendously amazing, so just quickly going to say …. THANK YOU from my taste buds and tummy xxx
So yummy
Couldn’t find refined coconut oil in the store so after reading some of the other comments I used margarine as it’s also firm at room temp. My batter was also very thick although I followed the ingredient amount to the gram… the result tastes great but is quite crumbly. Will def make these again when I find the right coconut oil.
Wow, so good! Delicious and dense. It’s even better the next day. Great do ahead and impress dessert.
In love with those brownies 😍
The best brownie that I eat.
Super rich and fudgy, that's what I needed 😊
Looking forward to try other desserts!
I love you blog, videos, tips and recipes - I love everything about Pick up Limes 🥰
Absolutely delish! I overcooked them a little due to getting distracted, but they were still great. Question: What temp. should these cook at? I put them in at 350 F, but they weren't done in the time. Should they be at 375? I just guessed because I didn't see a temp in the directions (which I may have missed).
Thanks for another winner of a recipe!
Hi.Would these be suitable for freezing? I've frozen your ultra sea salt caramel brownies even though they're not tagged with freezer friendly, and they were fine in the freezer. And amazing too !!
Can I swap the coconut oil with another oil? Which one do you recommend?
Can I swap the all purpose flour with buckwheat flower to make it gluten free?
I always use this recipe when making brownies for my friends. Very easy and really delicious, according to them :)
This was such a fab recipe. One bowl, quick and easy. The brownie turned out decadent with just the right amount of sweetness. I did add a splash of extra milk as I was making the mix. Thank you for sharing!
My go-to -I don't know what to bring! Easy to make, delicious taste!
I dont have an oven. Any tips to make these without an oven?
Made these brownies and they were a complete success!! Many people asked for the recipe. It is very decadent and fudgy, so if that is what you are looking for, totally recommended. I used unrefined coconut oil and, in my opinion, there wasn't any coconut flavor whatsoever. Thank you ver much for sharing this recipe :)
I have high cholesterol and need to avoid coconut oil. Will it matter if I sub another?
These brownies are delicious and very filling! Very easy to make (also due to quite simple ingredients). 10/10!
Not my first time making these brownies! They turn out amazingly chewy and flavourful again and again, so they truly deserve this five star rating. I used oat milk instead of soy and i also have used a different vegetable oil before. It works every time! Friends and family (also the non-vegan ones) love them, too!
Ok, this recipe TOTALLY deserve the review! The vegan brownies turned out to be amazing. Easy to make and the flavor was just perfect. I used almond milk instead of soy and unrefined coconut oil (I love the coconut flavor hint) instead of refined and it tastes amazing. Honestly, thank you for this recipe! Really easy to make and mess free (important). I can’t wait to try the Vegan Chocolate Layer Cake recipe too! 🙂 Oh and btw, I love the way every step is explained written and in the videos too. Thanks! 🙏🏻❤️
I made it for my Sis, it's her 21st birthday tomorrow <3
The frosting wouldn't harden - it was too 'watery', but maybe I just overmixed. I put it in the fridge for some time and it was all good.
The taste is amazing, thank you!!!
