These delicate pastries are found in Iran and Afghanistan, named for their similar shape to the ears (goosh) of (-e) elephant (fil). They're popular during Ramadan and Nowruz and often served with tea. A sprinkle of powdered sugar, chopped pistachio, and dried roses makes these beautiful treats stand out.

I made this with my students for school for cultures and communities day and they LOVED them!! Beautiful, tasty, and overall win! Also easy to make with kids. :)

Aw your lucky students, MaryEllen! We're seriously smiling from ear to ear reading this. It means so much that this recipe made it to the festivities 🥰

I grew up eating this. I am so excited to make this with my son! :)

Can I bake it instead?

Hi Anosha, we haven't tested it so we can't say confidently that it will work. The recipe is designed for frying, as this is how it's traditionally made. Baking could be an alternative, but it's not the method typically used, and it may result in a different texture and taste. If you do try it out, let us know how it goes!
