The marble cake originated in Germany in the 19th century, where it is known as "marmorkuchen". The cake uses the technique of very lightly blending two different colours of cake batters, usually a light and dark batter. We used the classic combination of vanilla and chocolate, which results in this beautiful and delicious soft cake.

Came out really delicious and moist. I’d say check it earlier. Mine was done after 50min.
Ramona - Jan. 26, 2025, 4:38 p.m.
Sooo delicious!😋😋😋 Next time i will use some baking paper to get the cake out easier.
Anastasia - Jan. 18, 2025, 10:20 a.m.
Really delicious! Just be mindful 12 servings makes quite a large cake. I used a medium-sized mould and had so much batter left I made 8 more muffins out of it :)
Marta González Fernández - Jan. 4, 2025, 1:05 p.m.
For my oven it was too much time, luckily I was watching it so it didn't burn. It was delicious 😋!
Inga - Jan. 2, 2025, 7:17 p.m.
Forgot to set the timer but the cake turned out great and was approved by my Fika guests 😊 10/10
Gara - Dec. 5, 2024, 9:07 p.m.
Such a delicious cake! Moist and soft on the inside, and crispy on the outside 🤤 Note: We didn’t have vegan butter, so I swapped the 1 cup of butter for 1/4 tahini + 3/4 sunflower oil. The taste is delicious, and the consistency seems pretty spot on, so I can recommend the trick if you’re out of butter!
PUL Team - Dec. 5, 2024, 9:38 p.m.
Hey Gara! Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience with the marble loaf recipe and substitution 🙌 what a neat modification ✨
Nadika - Sept. 23, 2024, 5:36 p.m.
Absolutely delicious! Marble cake was one of those classic cakes that I grew up eating in Germany and I have been craving to find plant based alternatives to those traditional German cakes and pastries. The marble cake turned out so well! The top was a bit crispy and the inside was nice and fluffy and it was just the right sweetness. Thank you for yet another epic recipe!
PUL Team - Sept. 23, 2024, 11:30 p.m.
Hey Nadika, we're so glad to hear you enjoyed the marble cake! It’s wonderful to find recipes that bring back those classic flavours from childhood. Thank you for sharing your feedback 💛
Terhi Stratton - Sept. 2, 2024, 7:08 p.m.
This cake is delicious! Thank you for making a vegan version of my childhood favorite that we call "Tiikerikakku" (=Tiger Cake) in Finland. I will definitely make it again! 🥰
PUL Team - Sept. 4, 2024, 7:12 p.m.
Aw love the connection to the cake, Terhi 🥰 so glad that it was enjoyed!
Sara Borges - June 24, 2024, 5:20 p.m.
Hi there! Would it possible to swap white vinegar for Rice vinegar? Thanks!
PUL Team - June 25, 2024, 11:30 p.m.
Hi Sara, you can swap white vinegar for rice vinegar in this recipe if you'd like. The flavour may be slightly different, but we imagine the loaf will still be delicious :)
Sara Borges - June 27, 2024, 9:34 a.m.
Thanks for the reply! I actually tried and it was indeed delicious! :)
angelica - May 6, 2024, 5:55 a.m.
Excellent! Perfect treat for a cozy weekend. I used a 9x5 inch loaf pan and lowered the recipe to 9 servings. Baked in 350 degree for 45 min and it was perfect. Ty PL team!
PUL Team - May 7, 2024, 12:34 a.m.
Yayyy so happy to hear, Angelica, thank you!
Tina - April 23, 2024, 7:39 p.m.
We loved it. Can I just say, I am thankfull for your work and the app. It's so nice to finally have a app with vegan baking recipies that I can just trust in, and bake them for visitors without trying them beforhand. So, big thanks to the PUL Team for the great work!
PUL Team - April 24, 2024, 7:53 p.m.
Gosh it means so much to hear this, Tina 🥹 I'll be sure to share the kind words with the whole recipe team! We're excited to continue our baking adventures together 🤗
Aileen - April 16, 2024, 5:29 a.m.
So so delicious! I’ll definitely be making this one again. My whole family loved it, too. It was gone within two days.
I also did use my own homemade vegan butter here. I would love if the PUL team experimented with their own vegan butter. I’ll certainly make it ASAP.
PUL Team - April 16, 2024, 11:23 p.m.
Yayy so thrilled that everyone enjoyed the loaf, Aileen! Perhaps one day we can have a vegan butter recipe☺️
tasnim - March 31, 2024, 9:48 p.m.
Hi there! I’m from South Africa, we have a cornflour which is used to thicken sauces etc. we don’t keep corn starch. Is it the same thing and can I use corn flour to sub the corn starch?
PUL Team - April 1, 2024, 8:23 a.m.
Hi Tasnim, corn flour and corn starch are similar but not the same. From our understanding, corn flour in South Africa is typically finer and may not have the same thickening power as cornstarch. We'd recommend using potato starch instead of corn starch if you can find it where you live. Let us know if you experiment with it 😊

Romane Q - Feb. 28, 2024, 11:17 p.m.
Finally I've done it for my sport team. They all loved it. It was really nice and it's easy to do big cakes. Thanks to have a created a vegan option for this classic dessert!
PUL Team - Feb. 29, 2024, 9:15 p.m.
What a big compliment that they all enjoyed the loaf, Romane! Thank you 😊
Romane Q - Feb. 22, 2024, 10:31 p.m.
Hey is it possible to only use baking powder instead of baking soda?
PUL Team - Feb. 23, 2024, 1:26 a.m.
Hey Romane, using only baking powder and omitting the baking soda may alter the texture and rise of the cake slightly, but it should still work!
Ioana - Jan. 29, 2024, 3:38 p.m.
Came out really fluffy and good. Not even one day later and it's almost gone 😁 For next time, I will definitely use baking paper. Just oiling the pan was not enough for me, and it was difficult to remove. Also, the cake was baked after 55 mins. I used low and bottom heat, no fan, at 180 Celsius.
PUL Team - Jan. 31, 2024, 6:33 a.m.
Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience with the loaf, Ioana, it's so appreciated ☺️
Silvia - Jan. 29, 2024, 7:39 a.m.
I tasted amazing and was really easy to make. Thank you! :-)
PUL Team - Jan. 29, 2024, 7:59 a.m.
Thank for for taking the time to share the review, Silvia!
Shelley K - Dec. 9, 2023, 4:58 a.m.
Subtle and soft. I used almond milk, definitely should have used soy.
Shelley K - Dec. 9, 2023, 4:59 a.m.
It was also done about 10 minutes early
Nat - Dec. 7, 2023, 12:04 p.m.
It was 25 mins done early...maybe different pam size?
PUL Team - Dec. 8, 2023, 10:32 p.m.
Hey there, Nat! Do you by any chance use a convection oven or setting which uses a fan? Our oven has top-bottom heating without a fan, so if you use a setting with a fan the loaf may cook more quickly - I hope this helps! ☺️
Natalie - Dec. 9, 2023, 11:37 a.m.
I have no fan either. :)
Dani - July 29, 2023, 12:01 a.m.
Mine turned out flat and sags in the middle ;—; maybe it’s because I used oat milk instead of soy milk
PUL Team - July 29, 2023, 12:12 a.m.
Hey Dani, aw how disappointing! Indeed we recommend using either soy or pea milk for this recipe, as the high protein content of these milks are what allows the milk to curdle to create vegan buttermilk 😊
Dani - July 31, 2023, 5:24 p.m.
I’ll just have to try again with a different milk! Thanks for replying. <3
Sarah - July 20, 2023, 11:48 a.m.
This was lovely with tea! Froze the leftover slices and it's been so nice to have a little treat whenever I need it!
PUL Team - July 25, 2023, 12:31 a.m.
So happy to hear, Sarah, thank you! 😃
Ingrid - July 4, 2023, 10:19 a.m.
Loved this! Delicious but subtle, exactly what a loaf like this should be!
Paulina - July 2, 2023, 8:08 p.m.
Delicious!!! Finally a recipe when this cake comes out moist inside and not dry 💙 Thank you!
