Made this morning and it was yummy! My son requested hot Oatmeal so it wasn't quite the same.

First time making date caramel. It was too small for my blender so I did it by hand with hot oat milk, i also added some vegan cream and it really tasted like caramel. I added more liquid to make it drizzle consistency.

I thought it tasted just like snickers. My son said it tasted nothing like snickers lol but was still very yummy.

Also, did I miss a step? But it says to mix half the caramel with nuts and it's a layer but what do you do with the other half? I mixed it into the oatmeal.

Hey Jacqui! Doing the date caramel by hand with hot oat milk and vegan cream sounds like a great adjustment - it must have been extra rich! The recipe uses half the caramel mixed with peanuts as a layer (in step 4), and the other half is stirred into the oats (in step 3), so you did it just right. Love that your son still enjoyed it 😆

Quick question - are Medjool dates necessary or can they be swapped for a different kind of dates? If so, hom many grams should be used? I often see Medjool in recipes, is there a apecific reason for that kind of dates to be used? At least in my region they are pretty hard to get and definitely in the pricier range.

Hi Anita! We prefer Medjool dates because they’re naturally softer and caramel-like, making them easier to blend, but other dates can work too! Just soak them in warm water for a few minutes if they’re too firm. For example, perhaps deglet noor dates could well, such as about 3-4 dates (around 30 g) to replace 2 Medjool dates. Hope you enjoy it!

I made this in the morning with cooked oats instead of overnight oats. Still very delicious, love the caramel layer! So easy and so yummy! 🤩

I’m not usually a fan of overnight oats, but this recipe has changed my mind.

The yogurt makes the mixture very creamy and the date caramel gives it some sweetness. Feels like having dessert for breakfast! 😊
