Yeasted waffles have a lovely, airy, but also wonderfully chewy texture, and more complex flavour, compared to waffles made with leaveners like baking powder or soda. Unlike traditional yeasted waffle recipes that require an overnight rest, ours needs just 10 minutes to develop its unique character. Dehydrated cherries add a pop of tartness, perfect to balance toppings like syrup and whipped cream.

My first waffles ever, DELICIOUS

Sneaky van Teaky - Feb. 2, 2025, 6:47 p.m.

So, I mixed metric and imperial units of measurement, which probably is why the dough was way too liquid. But the good thing about waffle dough is that it's quite forgiving. I adjusted with more flour, and the waffles turned out majorly delicious. I can't wait for berry season. Warm waffles with fresh berries and vanilla yoghurt of some sort. Perfect breakfast. 🥰

Glad you were able to adjust the dough - waffle batter is definitely forgiving like that. Fresh berries and vanilla yogurt on warm waffles sound like the perfect combo, friend 🥰

Unfortunately, these waffles turned out quite greasy and I wasn't a big fan of the flavour. I did use coconut oil instead of vegan butter—could that have caused the issues? The cherry and strawberry mix was a nice touch, but overall, the waffles didn’t turn out as expected. That said, I love all the other recipes on this app!

Hey Maxine, thanks so much for your feedback and for trying out the recipe! I’m pretty sure the coconut oil was the culprit behind the greasier texture and altered flavour. Vegan butter plays a key role in this recipe, and unfortunately, coconut oil doesn’t make a suitable substitute, which likely explains the difference in texture and taste. We always aim to suggest good swaps when possible (you can find them by clicking the little down arrow next to the ingredient), but in this case, sticking with vegan butter is essential for the best results. I’m glad you enjoyed the cherry and strawberry mix, and it’s great to hear you’re loving the other recipes on the app! If you ever need help with ingredient swaps, just leave us a comment, and we’ll do our best to get back to you as soon as we can 🥰

Yeast alternative, what should I used

Sneaky van Teaky - Dec. 26, 2024, 12:34 p.m.

Banking powder works as a leavening agent, but it will alter the texture. The waffles will be more cakey. I personally don't like the taste of baking soda, but it works as well...

Amazing receipt ! Taste amazing with frozen raspberries.

Charlotte - April 19, 2024, 4:23 p.m.

These were such a treat! I absolutely loved the consistency! I didn't have freeze dried cherries so I swapped them for frozen and I was happy to find they still worked! I think this could be adapted with different berries too. 👀❤️ I also used 3/4 oat flour and 1/4 a self raising GF blend and would do it again!

Yayy so glad that you enjoyed the waffles, Charlotte! Thanks for the insight on frozen cherries and making the recipe gluten-free 🥰

Okay, but didn't rise that much, maybe need to let rise longer with yeast.

PUL small logo PUL Team - Feb. 19, 2024, 9:54 p.m.

Hey Erica! Thanks for sharing your experience with the waffles. This dough doesn't rise like other yeasted doughs, like bread doughs, will. The yeast gives some lift after 10 minutes, but indeed, you could leave this dough for longer (even overnight) if you wanted! The yeast also helps contribute to the chewy texture and bready-flavour. We hope this helps if you give the waffles another try 😊

My new favorite waffle recipe🙌
Great taste and texture.🤗 I used chocolate chips as a substitute for the cherries, but i look forward to trying that!

clara - Feb. 17, 2024, 11:53 a.m.

this is incredible!!! my favourite waffle recipe i’ve ever tried🤩 I used freeze dried strawberries as I couldn’t find cherries, it was great😋
I am forever grateful for your app it has made my life so much easier and in turn I’ve been trying much “fancier” recipes more frequently🥰

Hey Clara, we're delighted to hear you enjoyed the waffle recipe! Using freeze-dried strawberries sounds like a delicious twist. Thank you for your kind words and for being a part of our community 💛

Woaw!! So yummy!! I love the texture!! It’s crispy and soft 😋😋

Martunia - Feb. 11, 2024, 11 p.m.

Not bad, but sooo greasy! No point in adding extra oil onto the waffle iron. Also, the butter melting step needs to be done way in advance, because the milk gets hot really fast and you can kill cook your flour if you add it to the dry ingredients too soon (like I did). Despite all that, the waffles came out crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, so overall, I recommend this recipe 😀

PUL small logo PUL Team - Feb. 12, 2024, 9:06 p.m.

Hey Martunia, thanks for sharing the feedback! If the waffle iron is a true non-stick, then extra oil is probably not necessary! We're glad that the waffles were enjoyed 😃

Leah S - Feb. 8, 2024, 8:13 p.m.

Finally a waffe recipe that worked reliably on every single waffle. It didn't turn into a gooey mess at all (like they usually do when I make vegan waffles). Thank you so much for this recipe :3

PUL small logo PUL Team - Feb. 8, 2024, 8:39 p.m.

Woohoo! We're so happy that the waffles were enjoyed, Leah, thank you 🤩
