This is our take on the "nuts & bolts" snack mix. A mix of bran flakes, pretzels, nuts, and spelt puffs are coated in a delicious umami-packed seasoning. You won't be able to stop yourself from eating a whole batch.

Love this! A spin on chex mix for us americans. It's one of those recipes I love from PUL that you can mix and match with whatever ingredients you have on hand. A quick tip though: use unsalted items if you can! Because they tend to get extra salty!
I also wonder if there is a way to allow the nuts to soak up more of the sauce? Like if we soak them in it first? Or in water and then in the sauce?
Either way, we love this!

Thanks so much, Jacqui! We love that you see it as a fun Chex Mix twist. Soaking the nuts beforehand is an interesting idea, and it might help them absorb more flavour, though I would only consider soaking it in the seasoning, not in water. Alternatively, increasing the amount of seasoning is a simple way to boost the flavour too ☺️

What would be a good substitute for puffed spelt and bran flakes?

Hi Linda, you can swap puffed spelt for puffed rice, popcorn, crackers, or just substitute with more of the other ingredients. The bran flakes can be swapped for another whole-grain cereal like cornflakes, wheat flakes, shreddies, cheerios, or corn bran. Hope you love the snack mix 🫶
