Used seitan instead and also swapped the apple honey for brown sugar (used 1/4 cup sugar and also reduced the water a bit) Was really tasty.

Woohoo! Thanks, Kris 🤗

Lieke - Oct. 2, 2024, 8 p.m.

Could I use maple syrup instead place of the apple honey? Would that still work out?

PUL small logo PUL Team - Oct. 2, 2024, 8:03 p.m.

Hiya Lieke! Yes, you can substitute maple syrup for the vegan apple honey. It adds slightly more liquid, so the sauce might need to be cooked a bit longer to reach a sticky, glossy consistency. It'll also add a richer sweetness so perhaps start will less and add more to taste 😊

Delicious!!! Thank you 🥹 I used a bunch of agave instead of the apple honey because I didn’t have time to make it and still turned out amazing

Alexis Bushnell - June 25, 2024, 7:01 p.m.

Really tasty and a great way to use the TVP I stocked up on from the zero waste store!

CINDI SATTERSTROM - June 3, 2024, 7:53 a.m.

Would soy curls work in place of the TVP in this recipe?

PUL small logo PUL Team - June 3, 2024, 5:04 p.m.

Hi Cindi, yes, soy curls should work as a substitute for TVP in this recipe 🙂 Like TVP, soy curls absorb flavours well and have a meaty texture when rehydrated. Just be sure to adjust the cooking time as needed to ensure the soy curls are cooked through. You might need to make some extra sauce to adjust for any size difference, to ensure everything is lovely and coated.

Tania Allan - April 30, 2024, 5:46 p.m.

Was yummy, and a good way to use the TVP sitting in my pantry that I had no clue what to do with!

Alex - April 29, 2024, 12:08 a.m.

This was delicious and quite simple to make! The sweetness of the sauce balances nicely with the savory TVP. Just a heads up— due to the amount of water added, the sauce is surprisingly thin. However, it still has a lot of flavor and is wonderful to pour over the rice. Also, if you like a bit of heat, I would definitely add a bit more chili pepper flakes to give it an extra kick. Overall, very yummy and an added plus that its freezer friendly!

Hey there, Alex, thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the recipe! Love the idea of adding chili for a spicy touch too 🌶️

I know it‘s my own fault not to check ahead but I think the soaking of the tvp should be step one
