I had the same problem with the watery potatoes. Is the milk supposed to be hot when you add it with the other ingredients? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the step.

Hey there, Raeghan, the soy milk doesn’t need to be hot, just room temperature is fine. Different brands of instant potatoes will need slight adjustments in liquid. If your potatoes are turning out watery you can try adding the milk a little at a time until you get the right consistency. We will add a note to the recipe, which will hopefully help for the future! Thanks for the question and patience with the recipe! 🤗

I ended up having to throw out the first batch and just followed the directions on the box the second time and it turned out good! Thanks!

Amazing! Super delicious and comfort food. I used a firm tofu instead of protein and flower instead of corn starch. It works good! Thank you a loooot! 😋

Woohoo! So happy to hear that the pantry shepherds pie recipe is being enjoyed, Natalia ☺️

Hi Sadia! Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe! I did have some trouble getting my instant potatoes to set using the measurements provided and I’m not sure why. Yours look so fluffy, but mine seemed to be very, very watery. Any suggestions on why that is? Could I add more instant potatoes next time to thicken it up you think?

PUL small logo PUL Team - Feb. 10, 2025, 3:58 p.m.

Hey Sarah! It sounds like the liquid ratio might have been too high for your instant potatoes. Different brands can absorb liquid differently, so adding more instant potatoes gradually until you reach the desired thickness should help. Comparing the package directions to our directions might also help to give some guidance 🤗

Be careful of salt. Don't ignore the recipe and use regular soy sauce.

Quick and tasty. Prep was a bit longer because I had to make mash. Hard to find vegan instant potato in Australian supermarkets, they all use milk 🤢.

A fellow Aussie! I've run into the same problem!

Lovely recipe. Thank you.
May I suggest that you use a different term?
Slurry means watery cow manure in my country.

Hi H, thank you for sharing this! By “slurry,” we mean a simple mixture of cornstarch and water used to thicken sauces or fillings - it's a common cooking term in some regions. For now, we've removed it from this recipe and we'll keep your suggestion in mind for clearer communication in the future 🫶
