Inspired by the iconic Ikea veggie balls, our plant-based rendition transforms the classic Swedish meat-based dish with hearty lentils and chickpea flour. It features a rich, creamy gravy and a hint of smokiness, which pairs excellently with mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. It's a truly comforting dish.

Hello! I was wondering do these Swedish meatballs freeze well? If so, how would you suggest throwing & reheating?

Made these finally and loved them. I air fried them because I wanted the balls for a salad and they were exactly what I wanted. Thank you.

Ooo thanks a bunch for sharing your experience with air-frying the balls, Robin! 🫶

Lovely recipe, I really enjoyed making both the "meatballs" and the gravy. As someone else before me mentioned, the meatballs dough was quite wet and a bit difficult to handle even after adding quite a lot more chickpea flour, but I think that depended on not towel-drying the frozen veggies after draining them. I'll try that next and see how it goes. Nonetheless, the flavour was great! :)

Hey Martina, thanks a bunch for sharing your experience with the meatballs. That is a good point; we will add that as a suggestion for the directions, to help improve the recipe. The mix of vegetables used might also affect the texture, and using cup measurement of the lentils over the weight 🤗

these are surprisingly quick and easy to make! my meatballs were quite soft, and in the photos theirs look a bit more firm, i think next time i might add more breadcrumbs or perhaps flour to substitute the chickpea flour? the gravy was delicious! I would say these are more like IKEA’s veggie balls as opposed to their plant balls :)

Hi Laura, we're so glad you found them quick and easy to make! If you'd like firmer lentil balls, adding some breadcrumbs or extra flour could help! Patting the frozen veggies dry with a paper towel can also remove excess water which may make them softer. Thanks for sharing your experience, and we love that you enjoyed the gravy as well 🥰

Hi PUL Team,
Do you think these can be prepared in oven, similarly to chickpea meatballs? Thank you! :)

PUL small logo PUL Team - March 15, 2025, 5:06 p.m.

Hey Sofia, yes these lentil balls should work in the oven, similar to chickpea meatballs. We’d suggest baking them at 200°C (400°F) for about 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through. Let us know how they turn out! 😊

Anna - March 14, 2025, 3:49 p.m.

Just finished this as a late lunch and it was DELICIOUS! Looking at the ingredients of the gravy I was a bit sceptical at first but it turned out yummy. And the meatballs I don’t even need to talk about, they were so good!

Woohoo! So happy to hear this, Anna 🤩
