Coconut chutney, originating from South India, serves as a flavourful condiment. While our recipe keeps it mild, feel free to enhance the heat by adding chili as desired. Its taste is a rich blend of earthy, nutty, and savoury flavours with a subtle hint of mustard. This chutney pairs wonderfully with dosas, idlis, or even tucked into a wrap.

This was another recipe that I was a bit dubious of, but it's beautiful! Really quick and easy to make too!

Hey Sadia, as an Indian following you from a long time. This chutney is a no-no! I don't think this is a good version of chutney.

Hi Supriya, aw we're sad to hear this! One of our teammates who lived in India made this recipe - I wonder if there are different versions depending on the region? We'd love to hear your thoughts on improving the recipe if you have any. In any case, we've just re-tested and updated the recipe, and we hope the updated version has an improved texture that more closely resembles the traditional chutneys enjoyed in southern India 😊

I tend to get excited every time I see an Indian recipe come up, and this time is no exception hehe

I do have one question though -- I've never really seen vinegar used as an ingredient in Indian dishes growing up(my parents cooked a lot of Indian!), and definitely not in chutneys afaik. Could you explain the role of vinegar here if you don't mind? Curious to know what its role is!

Hi Preeti 👋 we love that you're excited about the recipe! The vinegar in this chutney helps balance the flavours and adds a slight tanginess. Indeed it wasn't traditional, so we just re-tested the recipe and used lemon juice instead, and found it worked equally well, so we've just updated the recipe with that modification. Thanks for taking the time to ask questions and for helping us improve our recipes 🤗

Okay, the consistency in the updated photos look a lot like what I grew up with ☺️ excited to make this one. Would love to put in the request for "pongal and sambhar," or even just sambhar ☺️

And, of course! Thank you for creating a safe space to ask these questions :)
