Dal makhani is a popular Indian dish, made with black lentils and kidney beans. It takes some time to cook the lentils from scratch, but the result is a creamy, delicious lentil dish, perfect to be served with some rice or naan on the side. What makes this recipe special is the dhungar (smoking) method, using a small piece of charcoal, which is optional, but gives the dal its distinctive smoky taste.
