Challah is a traditional Jewish bread often consumed on Shabbat and holidays. This particular recipe is inspired by "water challah", a specific variant that omits eggs, resulting in a lighter loaf with a golden-brown crust and soft interior. In our version, we've veganized the recipe by replacing the traditional egg wash, which gives the bread its signature shine, with a mixture of soy milk and maple syrup. This vegan-friendly glaze adds a touch of sweetness and ensures the loaf still has a rich, golden-brown exterior.

This recipe is absolutely amazing! 3rd time making it and still delicious. I was wondering if you could freeze some of the dough and pop it in the oven when you want some. Did you try this ?

So glad you're loving the recipe, Perrine! 😊 We haven't tried, though perhaps you can freeze the dough after the first rise. Just shape it, wrap it tightly, and freeze. When you're ready to bake, let it thaw and rise again before popping it in the oven. Let us know if you test it out!

Im so thankful for this recipe! My parents make it at home, vegan for me. But i love to have your recipe right now! It was delicious! I have made 2 smaller breads out of this recipe with the same amount that you use, and it works! I love the taste and softness of the bread thank you! 😊😍

This is a 100% must make recipe! I loved the subtle sweet flavor from the vegan egg wash involving maple syrup. Would it work to double the syrup for even extra sweetness?
There is also a small error on Step Two in the Make feature. It says to knead for 8 minutes, but the built-in timer is a 3-minute timer instead.

We're so thrilled you loved the recipe, Aileen! Doubling the maple syrup should add more sweetness without affecting the texture. Thanks for catching that error in step two as well - we just updated the timer 🙌✨
