Ingredients
Vegan french toast batter
-
1⅔ cups (399 mL)canned light coconut milk
-
-
1 Tbsp (7 g)ground flaxseeds
-
2 tsp (5 g)ground cinnamon
-
1 tsp (2 g)ground ginger
-
¼ tspground cardamom (optional)
-
¼ tspground turmeric
-
⅛ tspground nutmeg (optional)
-
⅛ tspground cloves (optional)
Assembly
-
1 Tbsp (15 mL)vegetable oil
-
10thick slices of bread†
Toppings
-
1½ cups (360 mL)unsweetened coconut yogurt
-
2 cups (300 g)fresh mixed berries
Directions
- Add all of the batter ingredients to a wide, shallow bowl. Whisk well.
- Preheat a large pan on medium-high heat with a bit of oil.
- Dip the slices of bread into the mixture, letting it soak for a few seconds before flipping and covering the other side. Let the excess batter drip off, or wipe off if needed.
- Place the soaked slices onto the frying pan, and let it cook for 2 - 3 minutes, until golden, before flipping. Repeat on the second side.
- Flip again to crisp the outside further, another minute or so on each side. Add more oil as needed between batches.
- Remove from the pan and serve with your favourite toppings. Enjoy!
Notes
- †Stale bread is preferred, otherwise the toasts get too soggy, especially in the middle.
Storage
- Best if enjoyed immediately.
- Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

The flavors of this french toast is outstanding! i’m not a huge sweets person but my husband loves french toast so I really made it for him but I enjoyed it myself!
Such a fan of these. I'm glad I can finally have french toast again in my breakfast rotation. The smell is very autumnal and warms my heart.
Super pain perdu. Original par toutes ses épices. À refaire avec grand plaisir. Ne pas mettre ni la cardamome ni la levure nutritionnelle qui rappellent trop le salé d'un plat. Un petit filet de beurre de noix est parfait par dessus
Fourth recipe I've tried on my trial and WOW!!! Super delicious and so easy. I had frozen mixed berries so I put some sugar and lemon in a saucepan and made a compote. SO EASY!!!!!!!!! I wish I could give more stars!!!! Thanks!!!
I’m not a fan of nutritional yeast but in this recio you can’t even taste it very nice Sunday breakfast, thanks for working so hard to make our life better and easier a big hug from Los Angeles California
delicious!
Made it this morning at it was an absolute hit!
We used a multi-grain bread with a hard crust and whole seeds and nuts (which gave it some crunch) and added a tsp of vanilla.
So… good!
Very nice and tasty!
Adding a recipe making video navigating orally would be even more helpful.

They are absolutely perfect!!
Delicious & easy to make!
That's an amazing, easy recipe . I will make it this weekend and enjoy with my Mum and Dad ..☺
Delicious for starting the day!
Spaziali 🤤🥹
This was my first French toast ever. It got more wobbly than expected (I tough it would become more crispy?) but was very tasty and interesting to chew altogether 😅
I used thawed bread - maybe it need to be fresh. I'll try it 😊
Prepared it for the first time. Have to taste it yet. But it looks yum
French Toast was my favorite dish as a kid. I haven’t prepared it in a really long time, because I didn’t know a good vegan recipe. I really loved this one! With the yogurt it is creamy, the toast tastes like a warm hug and the berries give the dish a delicious lightness.
I'm a UX designer and this app has been the best app I have ever interacted with. I can tell there is so much passion and care from the people behind it. Thank you
This is delicious
Dear Sadia and PUL team,
I pick this random recipe to thank you for the amazing work that you do every single day. Your recipes are incredible and they bring me so much joy every time I scroll through your website or instagram page.
I also wanted to share with you the fact that, a few days ago, I created an arsenal of vegan recipes for my best friend (who's leaving to study abroad for 6 months) to encourage her to - at least - try a few plant-based recipes. And, drum roll please.... 90% of the recipes I chose come from this website! So thank you for helping me.
I admire you for always having new and exciting ideas, sharing with us the most delicious food, taking mouth-watering pictures and showing the world that vegan doesn't mean bland, boring and repetitive.
I appreciate you more than words can say.
Have a wonderful rest of your week!
I never like French toast before but as usual a Pick Up Limes recipe changed my taste 😍 The coconut milk and spices make it so yummy. Love the yoghurt topping as opposed to usual whipped cream you get served at a restaurant. It’ll be a staple weekend breakfast in our household.
This recipe is soo good! Super easy to make and by far the best French toast recipe I've tried.
Yummy recipe, and it is amazing that this luxurious breakfast is not difficult to make. I used slices of walnut bread that was great: the pieces of walnuts gave a nice extra crunch in addition to the fried crust😋
I used oat beverage in the batter, and I served my toasts with coconut yoghurt and strawberry jam.
This recipe reminds me so much of the Swedish counterpart called ‘fattiga riddare’, normally eaten as a dessert, which I ate during my childhood. Great walk along the memory lane at breakfast😂
amazing recipe!
I got this site for Christmas! I have made a few recipes already! I just noticed the comment section, however. I will use it in the future. I am so excited. This is the most truly interactive site of all time! ❤️
So good!
Delicious! Definitely recommend making.
The recipe looks yum. I am going to try it tomorrow. Is it possible to replace the flax seeds though? I don't like their taste.
Thanks
chouette
I used some vegan Hokkaido milk bread and used almond milk instead of coconut milk. Turned out insane! Definitely one of my fave breakfasts! ;)
Deeee-licious!!
Just made it and Aamaziiingg!!
Thank you so much and the app is top notch! I never seen anything like it. I’ve been following you in Youtube for many years. Love the channel and everything you all do.
Thank You for creating this app! 🤩🤩
I didn't have fresh berries so used frozen I heated them up in a pan with a touch of sugar and it turned out great. Very delicious I look forward to making this recipe again! 😋
Easy, quick, and absolutely delicious!!!
Incredible!!
Used cinnamon swirl bread and kids loved it with coconut whipped cream and berries. Great to make as French toast fingers to freeze and have for lunches.
ground coconut powder also handy for puddings, sweets 🧁🎂🎂
That’s delicious!! Thanks for this amazing recipe. I took a picture but unfortunately I can’t link it
This is the best French toast I've ever tasted!
As a Vegan Chef and Restaurant Owner...I LOVE THIS APP AWESOME RECIPE..love the fact of not using processed plant based egg ...🤟✌️❤️
This is so good and comforting. The perfect breakfast for a slow morning
Made this today with homemade sourdough bread, with vanilla coconut yogurt and raspberries. It was amazing!
