Ingredients
Lentil potato patties
-
2medium potatoes, peeled, cut into 2 cm cubes
-
½ cup (102 g)dry green lentils, rinsed
-
1 Tbsp (6 g)roti masala spice mix†
-
½ tspsalt
-
¼ tspground black pepper
Garlic yogurt
-
1 cup (240 mL)unsweetened soy yogurt†
-
1garlic clove, crushed
-
½ tspsalt
-
¼ tspground black pepper
Wrap assembly
-
2 tsp (10 mL)vegetable oil
-
3carrots, thinly sliced into strips
-
1medium onion, sliced
-
4large soft tortillas
-
2 cups (60 g)fresh spinach
Optional garnish
-
fresh parsley
-
lemon slice
Directions
- Add the potatoes and lentils to a large pot filled with water. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and cook uncovered for 15 - 20 minutes, or until fully cooked. Then drain.
- Meanwhile, make the garlic sauce by combining the yogurt, garlic, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Set aside.
- Line a baking tray and preheat the oven to 430°F (220°C)*.
- Add the drained potatoes and lentils to a large bowl, along with the masala seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mash everything together.
- Scoop up about 2 Tbsp of the mixture and form it into little balls in your hands, and then flatten into patties.
- Transfer the patties to the baking tray, and bake on the centre rack of the oven for 25 - 30 minutes, or until lightly golden.
- Meanwhile, heat a large pan on medium-high heat. Add the oil and carrots, and cook for 3 - 4 minutes. Then add the onions and cook for an additional 3 - 4 minutes, or until softened to your liking.
- If desired, heat up the tortillas in a large pan or in the oven. Assemble the wraps with garlic sauce, spinach, carrots and onion, and the lentil potato patties. Enjoy!
Notes
- †Our store-bought roti masala seasoning consists of ground coriander, turmeric, cumin, mustard, nigella, fenugreek, and pepper. If you don't have access to a similar spice blend, simply substitute out for an equal amount of curry powder.
- †Nutrition tip: aim to use plant-based yogurt that is fortified with calcium.
- * We used top and bottom heating (not fan-assisted/convection).
Storage
- Assembled wraps are best if enjoyed immedietly.
- Store each component separately in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Delish! Family loved the patties. I used golden lentils and leftover (cold) potatoes along with garam masala, which was quite spicy. The patties were pretty mushy, probably because the lentils were quite wet, so they didn’t hold their shape perfectly. But the fam called them “delicious mashed potato bites.” And I’m thinking they’re the perfect use for leftover potatoes from now on.
So easy to prepare. Ideal for lunches and the assembly was minimal. Will definitely make again
perfect, every time i make this.
This time i made the sauce with wild garlic and the patties with a mix of madras curry, garam masala and curry from ,,vegan richa".
This was soooo good! My husband had 3 wraps!! Of course, I made smaller tortilla wraps with 2 tikkis in each wrap! Quick and easy with very few ingredients, yummy light dinner! 🤤
Simple and delicious. 👍
Made this tonight with the girlies and they loved it! There's enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow!
While I rarely follow any recipe strictly, since I like using whatever I already have (no waste!), I loved this one. I found it super inspiring and delicious. I used one sweet potato in the mix, and I wanted to use up some red lentils. I waited for a few minutes before pouring them into the boiling pot with the potatoes. The mixture did become a bit gummier and more moist, so I added just a touch of flour. However, I think that if you ignore the texture, form the balls, and put them in the oven...here they are, small bites of heaven! Simple but amazing. Groeten uit Utrecht!
Perfect recepie
Thank you PUL for making it so easy to become vegan with tasty super creative and easy recipes like this one. I made it today with red lentils and it worked pretty well. The patties were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside but not too mushy. I cut the potatoes a little smaller to reduce their cooking time which I think helped a little. Also I think it is easiest to shape the patties when they’re still warm.
This was a tasty lunch and kept me filled up all afternoon. In the end, I used curry powder as you suggested since roti masala seasoning was not available. I cheated, I used plain Skyr yogurt, which is nice and thick. I even managed to get my twenty year old son to eat two pieces of spinach in his tortilla. My husband loved it and wolfed it down. Needs a little planning, but I had the time. Great way to use up those last potatoes.
Could you post your own roti masala seasoning? If you have one, that is. I have plenty of Indian spices. Thanks.
Very quick and tasty recipe, love the mix of flavours! My patties were a bit stuck to the parchment paper while the top was already done, though. I didn't flip them halfway through, as the instructions did not say to do so, but it may also have been because I used sweet potatoes, I'll use normal potatoes next time :)
Loved it
I made this recipe with sweet potatoes, since that's what I had in my pantry. The patties were delicious! Also, this recipe was so fun to make. I really enjoyed shaping the patties with my hands. It felt like I was a kid again!
Easy to make; I like the idea of simple Pattie’s out of potato and lentils (cheap and convenient). I paired this recipe with the homemade naan, the hummus and tzatziki sauce which were all very good. Maybe next time for something more hearty or easier protein, I would try grilled tofu in curry spice. I really enjoyed the grocery lists page! It was simple and it combines ingredients when you are making more than one recipe which is very nice. I didn’t have to bounce from recipe to recipe to check what I needed. That is genius. Thank you for having me test your app
This recipe was so much better than I was expecting it to be. Lots of flavours and textures. And the patties were super easy to make, and also quick. I don't know if this recipe has a video, but it definitely deserves one.
Thank you!
This is one of my favorite of your recipes for how simple and filling it is! I did have a quick question: I'm planning on making these again next week, but all I have are red lentils. How would you go about cooking those differently than green lentils to get the same consistency? I'd love to be able to use what I have rather than having to buy more ingredients if I can help it.
This was SOOO good—the spicy garlic-y flavor is perfectly balanced, and it’s so simple to make. I subbed out black beans for the lentils (my sister used all of them before she left after xmas >.>) and made it a sandwich, and it still worked beautifully!
I switched out some of the veggies in the wrap based on preferences and what we had on hand, but I made the patties and sauce exactly like the recipe. They turned out so good, thank you! I'll definitely make again.
Wow! Once again you’ve done it!! I made these for meal prep for my work week and they are so good!! I didn’t use the sauce because I had some vegan tzatziki in the fridge but the little patties are awesome with flavour. I did find the mixture really wet and sticky but I just used a spoon to make them but we thinking if I refrigerated it for a while it would also make it easier. Otherwise this is a great quick and cheap meal option!! Will definitely make again :)
Tonights dinner! Very easy, quick, cheap and super tasty. This meal made my day. Thank you very much! <3
love it!
Made this for dad and myself. We loved it
I really love this recipe and I make it often! I’m just wondering if it might be a good idea to freeze the patties since I always have a couple left over, what do you think?
Love from Sweden
Hi,
Very good! Greetings from Portugal
Absolutely delicious!! I made it with zucchinis instead of carrots because... Well... I forgot the carrots while grocery shopping... But it was amazing. I had a little bit of troubles making the patties because it was sticky and I was afraid they wouldn't keep their shape after baking in the oven. But everything was perfect.
I will definitely do that recipe again ❤️❤️❤️
Cheers from Belgium
Delicious and very easy to make!
From Canadian in Luxembourg, I just made it and it is awesome. Thanks 😀
I'm not vegan but I loved this recipe!! It took time to make the patties, but other steps were simple and didn't take time. I loved the crunchiness of the carrots and the onions, and the curry taste of the parties made the dish so wonderful! I'll definitely make this again :)) Thanks for your hard work to develop this (and every other) recipe!
Very good recipe! Super nourishing and tasty, also quite easy to make!
made them last week when I was low on groceries. Devine! I didn't bake them though, I just shaped and cooked them on a pan.
Ahhhh...
just love how the steps can be ticked off ✔️✔️✔️
Love the videos, recipes and budget series...
Delicious recipe! And easy to prepare. Thank you
Thought it was very delicious! Will definitely make again. I added Harrisa to the yogurt sauce for spice. Could only find vanilla unsweetened almond yogurt, but still taste good.
This was probably the best wrap I’ve ever made, so delicious😋 Advice for other home cooks - don’t ever skip the roasted carrots and onions in this recipe, it’s literally the best part of it! I also always add a generous amount of the garlic sauce, it’s the key ingridient, the more the sauce the better😊
Delicious 😋 when I first tried to form the ball, it was too sticky, I waited a few minutes until they got colder and this made them easier to be formed. I backed the patties in airfryer and they turned out great😍
Amazing dish. And the oven baked potatoes ars super delicious crispy. We love it!
Very delicious! Made this as meal prep for lunch this week, great for students! Thank you so much for these awesome recipes!
Very delicious! I swapped out some ingredients (cucumbers instead of spinach, red bell pepper instead of onions) because I used what I had on hand. It still turned out great! The patties are wonderful and really easy to make!
These were absolutely amazing! So tasty and filling. Was skeptical about the yogurt sauce, but was surprisingly delighted! So good, fresh, and very yummy. Had these on their own with some yogurt on top because I didn't have wraps. Love love love, going to be a staple for sure.
There is such simplicity, beauty, natural joy for natural food and colors in your videos, recipes and energy Sadia.
I bumped into your YouTube channel almost by random and was hooked up on the creative humble yet magic way you put effort in all you do. I loved the idea of the budget recipes cause I feel many people are discouraged by gourmet vegan food prices which they cannot replicate at home. You show that delicious healthy cooking is indeed possible.
This webpage is a recent finding, and I really appreciate it for the option to cross away the ingredients you already have,
the option to select an ingredient which you have in your fridge and find out recipes with it, the automatic changing of proportions depending on the amount of people, as well as the nutritional value you provide at the end of the recipe.
Love the quality and vibrancy of your videos and pics.
in short, I think you are one of the best sources of delicious nutritious content out here.
Thanks for the energy!
Absolutely delicious! It was a delightful dinner. Thanks so much Sadia. 💙
The joy and simplicity you share about plant based cooking motivates me to eat healthy and preety food, thank you for that
Lovvvved it!
Thank you so much for your positive vibes and recipes!
These are amazing!! We put ours inside pitta bread and it worked really well too.
This has been one a weekly lunch for us. Thankyou PUL!!
I just made this for lunch, and it was delicious!! Thank you Pick Up Limes!! I make whole wheat sourdough tortillas and did that ever go well with this meal!!
The recipe is surprisingly very delicious since I am skeptical about the yogurt sauce, but I'm hooked with the taste of the sauce and will keep making it for future wraps!
Delicious !
These were so simple and delicious. My son, who is a pretty picky eater, loved them.
I often make legume burgers/patties, but never saw or tried it with potatoes before! I used different spices and herbs to flavour it and added mushrooms too, it was so delicious! Thank you for the recipe, I'm happy I doubled the recipe for the patties because I will enjoy it again tomorrow. I didn't make the wraps though, although they sound good too!
These wraps were so good. I didn’t have yogurt but had some garlicky cashew cream that worked great! We quite often have leftover potatoes so these will be in steady rotation.
Hi PUL,
Thank you for such a simple and easy to cook recipe. I made these wraps for dinner at my home this week, with a few changes to the recipe; replaced the lentils with green peas and tried the wraps with lettuce one day and with spinach the next day. The wraps turned so delicious, that i couldn't stop with one wrap. Just loved them ! Thanks for all your wonderful recipes; I have tried some of your recipes earlier too and will be trying more of them soon :) !
We loved this one! It was simple to make, and ended up making 6 servings, so even more budget friendly! The patties stuck together really well, and the simple mix of carrots and onion was simply delicious! They will be made again very soon and added to our rotation of frequent dishes!
Love the idea! If I was going to freeze them, should I do it after I bake them, after I fry them, or before I bake them?
This ! I loved it and my family too. It is tasty, simple and great to make ahead. It will be part of my list of classic recipes I use often.
I wish you would make more of these Vegan Budget Challenge videos.
This was amazing, I switched up the masala a little to use what I had at home, and added some sautéed red cabbage and avocado slices!
My normally skeptical husband couldn’t stop raving about it. I wanted to freeze some patties but they got over too quickly haha!
Hi PUL
I just tried these, and while they turned out ok, the mix was more like cookie dough, I think it is because I followed the package instructions and cooked the green lentils for 30 minutes. They where very mushy, but I was afraid to cook them shorter, as I know they can be toxic if not boiled long enough. Is it really ok to only boil them for 15 minutes and do you know the minimum cook time?
I hope this can also help me become better at using lentils in general, as I normally don't like them due to that mushy texture
Absolutely love these! So simple to make, grateful flavour, really good for cold salads and sandwiches afterwards. Plus they taste really good in a wrap with mango chutney!! I flipped them half way through cooking to get an even bake.
I really enjoyed this recipe as I am a big fan of the garlic yogurt sauce that you use on the BBQ Cauliflower Pizza and the one in this recipe is super similar! The method of making the patties and the shape reminded me of homemade falafel but the potato in them gave them an extra crispness when baked which I loved. The combination of textures and flavours in this recipe made it a complete winner! 🙌🏻🌿
I made this tonight for my family. We all loved it!! So easy to make, too. Will be making it again, for sure! Thank you!!
This was really delicious! I got the link tot he recipe from Sustainably Vegan. I think maybe cooking it on a really humid day was a bad choice ebcause my smoke detectors were like IT'S HOT AND THERE ARE PARTICLES INT HE AIR even though they didn't burn, haha! I did a different spice mix: 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp onion powder, and 1 tsp dried dill. It was really good! I will have to try it with the masala or curry sometime too.
Great recipe Sadia! I used chickpeas as I didn't have lentils on hand, and it worked really well. Also tried a few in the air-fryer...worked well!
This was absolutely delicious! The whole family loved it. We didn't have roti spices but we had biryani spices and that worked really well. We ended up doubling the number of tortillas and adding some sautéed red cabbage -- we were hungry!
Hi PUL,
Frist things first: what a great new website!! :)
Second: we love the challenge so far! My husband really liked these patties - we were wondering, would they be good to batch cook and then keep them in the freezer to heat up later on?
Thanks and have a wonderful start into the week! :)
Hi PUL. I love everything you do. I dont have an oven and i really want to make the patties... So can a large pan or an air fryer work for this? Do you happen to know how to cook the patties in a pan or an air fryer? (the question is also for any of you reading this ♥) Thanks so much! Love from México.
Used curry spice instead of roti masala. Super yummy and filling! Definitely going into our regular rotation! Thanks for the delicious recipe!
Thank you so much. I discovered the recipe yesterday, I cooked it today. Just perfect and versatile. I made the wrap with the product I had in the fridge and there is no leftover. Everybody loved it.
I absolutely adored this!! It was so tasty and super easy to make. Even my dad (who's a very big meat lover) loved it!!
Awesome for meal prepping in the office. Very easy to make, however my patties definitely needed much longer than 30 minutes.
So easy, so delicious and so nutritious. Would definitely make this again!
I just made this for dinner and wow!
The flavours work so well together, I would never have thought to add carrots in wraps.
I want to experiment with the garlic sauce a bit, as the raw garlic flavour was too much for me. Might try roasting some garlic, or using garlic powder instead. Besides that I loved everything.
The patties seem like a versatile recipe too, just add different seasonings for different flavours, excited to try it out.
The recipe is also great for weeknights for me, as after each step I could clean up and make sure I didnt have a ton of dishes to deal with after my meal.
Made this for dinner and they were delicious. I don't adhere to a vegan diet but love vegetables. I used garam masala in the patties and added about a half teaspoon of sweetener to the sauce, it was great!
Thank you for this recipe! It was perfect for dinner, so fresh and delicious. I replaced the masala seasoning with curry and I only had red lentils, so it came out a bit more mushy than it looks in your recipe. But the taste was still very good. I will definitely try it again soon.
Hi Sadia, I’ve tried many of your recipes and have not been disappointed! Thank you! I am wondering if you could suggest an alternative to yogurt in the garlic sauce. I live in China where it’s not easy to find unsweetened plant based yogurt. I’ve tried cashew cream, but miss yogurt.
I made this for dinner tonight. For lack of roti masala seasoning I used Penzeys Now Curry mix. The wrap was fantastic! 10/10 would make again.
