Hutspot is a classic Dutch winter dish that's hearty and filling, made with mashed carrots, potatoes, and onions. Traditionally mildly flavoured, it’s typically served with a smoked sausage and sometimes gravy. We decided to add a twist by incorporating warm spices and a spicy chipotle gravy. Paired with tangy pickled red onions and lettuce, this dish beautifully balances sweet, salty, and tangy flavours, with a bit of heat.

I love trying new foods from different countries and this one was a must to satisfy our need for cosy winter dinners at the moment. The flavours were delicious and I added some miso paste to the gravy which worked a treat!

Trying new flavours is always such a joy! Adding miso to the gravy sounds like a genius way to bring extra depth, Charlotte 🙌

This was yummy! I think I'll go for a more umami style gravy next time though :)

It was okay but not the savory comfort food I expected. Would sauté the onions separately as they developed an unpleasant smell when cooked.

Great twist on this recipe, but also definitely honours the classic hutspot taste! Would recommend making a smaller portion of the sauce though, if you don’t like to spill leftovers.
